Luck of the Irish

St. Patrick’s Day is fast approaching and the luck ‘o the Irish is in the air.  How is your resturant celebrating this holiday?  You do not need to be an Irish ehstablishment or to serve green beer to get your customers in the spirit.  Does your establishment offer a daily special?  Corned beef and sauerkraut, or a nice irish stew is always a crowd pleaser on this day. Perhaps an Irish twist on an existing menu item is your way to celebrate this day.

Like many ice cream and yogurt shops Baskin-Robbins have released a flavor in honor of St. Paddy, its newest flavor—Lucky Mint ice cream. The March Flavor of the Month is mint-flavored, milk-chocolate ice cream with colorful green candy flakes and chocolate coated sandwich cookies.

“With Lucky Mint, our goal was to create a flavor that celebrates the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day and welcomes spring with a mix of vibrant flavors and colors,” says Brian O’Mara, Baskin-Robbins vice president of marketing. “We feel like we discovered Mint Chocolate Chip’s delicious twin.”

Quick serve restaurants like McDonalds usually jump on the wagon for any holiday. This week for the first time ever, McDonald’s classic Shamrock Shake, seasonal green milkshake from McCafé is officially available at McDonald’s restaurants nationwide through March 25th.

Burger King is celebrating St. Patrick’s Day without changing anything on their menu. They Will Share Luck of the Irish with free fries for everyone in America. On March 17 and 18, customers can stop in at participating Burger King restaurants to celebrate the luck of the Irish with some gold of their own: a “pot” of golden-brown, crispy french fries. Of course no St. Patrick’s Day is complete without a little green, so guests can dip their hot and crispy fries into a one-of-a-kind, green St. Paddy’s Sauce from Heinz.

“Free fries for St. Patrick’s Day weekend is the Burger King way of sharing the luck of the Irish with all of our guests,” says Alex Macedo, senior vice president, North America marketing, Burger King Corp. “We’re especially excited to have teamed up with Heinz, makers of America’s Favorite Ketchup, to offer a fun and festive green dipping sauce on the side.”

Bruegger’s bakeries are using the holiday to share the pot of gold with others through a traditional green bagel fundraiser. To celebrate the fourth-annual event Bruegger’s will be baking green bagels and donating a portion of the sales to Feed The Children, an international hunger relief organization providing food and other necessities to children and families in need.

“Bruegger’s is a proud part of the communities we serve and annually we support a number of local and national charities through donations and fun events like our green bagel fundraiser,” says James J.
